Dear President Nate and Staff,

We can not find the words to thank you for all you have done for Audrey.  You provided a warm, welcoming home for her filled with love and kindness.  You are a very special group.

Mom is adjusting well at the “Memory Care Facility”; she is content and knows she is safe and cared for.  Thank you again Nate for the recommendations and for helping to make this such a smooth transition.

Mountain Meadows is truly a treasure for Leavenworth and it’s all because of each one of you. You are wonderful.

Love, Ken & Arleen

Mom has settled in quite well at Mountain Meadows.  The staff is caring and friendly.  They have been very hospitable and helped us make her feel at home.  In fact, she feels comfortable enough to keep her door open all of the time.  Family did a great job decorating her room.  Mom especially likes the fact that it is right next to the dining room!  The food is definitely a highlight for her; she has gained twenty pounds so far!  When you ask her what she ate, she usually says “I don’t remember, but it was good!”

She also participates in a lot of daily activities.  She goes walking with a group, indoors or out, depending on the weather.  No one knows when she last had regular exercise.  Of course, her breathing has long been a factor in this regard, but with supervision of her medications and good meals, she seems to feel well and has been able to walk without trouble.  She has even gone on a field trip to Wal-Mart and a picnic in their van.  Mom has no trouble getting around, and she recognizes she is much better off than many of the other residents.  We hear from the staff that she often helps others get where they are going.

As you may know, Mom has always loved crafts and so she never misses out on craft day.  She has also enjoyed book readings, concerts, and a piano recital.  In her room she still likes to collect miscellaneous clippings and photos for her scrap book and watches for the newspaper so she can do the crossword.  We are glad for these interest, since she’s never watched much television.

Thanks to the many of you who have visited Mom or been in touch with her.  I am sure you share our pleasure in knowing that she is enjoying good care, cooking, and companionship at Mountain Meadows.

Happy Holidays!

Dear Camille,

Mountain Meadows is an asset to the Leavenworth community, combined with the Cascade Medical, they offer excellent care and quality of life for seniors, living independently or with assisted living care. The best combination I've found in Washington, I've been in charge of directing the care of my mother and mother-in-law for the last 6 years in several facilities ranging from independent senior living to a full care nursing home and hospital rehab units.

A huge benefit for relatives is the draw of Leavenworth culture. The people of Leavenworth and the Wenatchee area seem to be more supportive of its elders and are more caring. The care providers at Mountain Meadows seem to more qualified, in part because of the generally better attitudes.

By way of comparison Mom (93) lived for the past 2 years at one of the best Assisted Living facilities in Bellevue, run by a highly respected national company. Their care was very good, their facility was like a 4 star hotel, the food was OK. Mountain Meadows because of its location is unique, quiet, caring and excellent with response to  its residents needs. Meals are simple and just great country cooking - less selection than larger facilities but much higher quality - Mom has expressed, several times, how much better the meals are and how much she enjoys living in Leavenworth.

A big plus is the proximity of the hospital for emergency care - I've been to Cascade twice with her.  Excellent doctors with modern equipment. In Bellevue it took 8 hours or more for a large prestigious hospital to do what Cascade does in 3 hours. I hope that Mountain Meadows and Cascade can continue their close relationship, to the benefit of all the area residents - this is one of those cases where you don't know what you've got till its gone (and you have a problem and need it).

Sincerely,  Bob Rankin

Thank you Cascade Medical Center and Mountain Meadows.

My mother, Bernice DuMond has been living at Mountain Meadows for almost two years.  She received consistent, attentive and excellent care while there.  During this time we became part of a nurturing and supportive family that has been created in their environment.  It’s all about the residents, their families and the wonderful staff.  We feel blessed that this type of assisted living is available in Leavenworth, so close to home.

Recently, it was necessary for Mom to be admitted to the Cascade Medical Center for medical treatment.  During her stay there, she received excellent care by Dr. Richardson, clinic and hospital staff (they all know who they are).  We could not have been more pleased with her care, attention to detail, special kindness extended to her and positive attitudes that surrounded her.

This was the first opportunity that we have had to experience the quality of service and care from inside the hospital, although we have worked with CMC on other levels, over time.  Again, we feel blessed that our CMC affords our community and visitors to our community the very best medical care.

We are most grateful to Mountain Meadows and Cascade Medical Center for the kindness and healing environment they gave to Mom.

Thank you, Charlie and Sharon Colbourne

February 2007

Like many seniors, my mother was always independent; she enjoyed living alone in her own home.  Though she never thought of leaving, her physician finally advised her that living alone was no longer the best choice.  As a consequence we began looking for a residence where she could remain independent but where she could also receive assistance if needed.   By accident my wife and I learned about Mountain Meadows in Leavenworth and made a preliminary visit.  Nate Oglesby, the Executive Director, graciously showed us around the facility.   It brought to mind a small European hotel with comfortable rooms and a cozy dining area.

As my mother didn’t live in the area, we took some photos and showed them to her.  Somewhat to our surprise she was immediately impressed.  Perhaps the unexpected opportunity to have someone else prepare her meals and wash the dishes was the first thing that caught her attention.   After a few days of discussion, she decided that she would like to move to Mountain Meadows.

The fact that she was able to bring her favorite furniture and accessories made her move from home less stressful.  In no time she was in the swing of things at her new home.  The day she arrived she joined the exercise class, lead by Fern Arness, and really enjoyed the experience.  Afterward she enthusiastically explained that the gentle stretching exercises would help her get around more easily.  After her first meal she was thrilled about the food.  It was very tasty and carefully served at small tables in the dining room.

Though at first she occasionally missed her own home, she became more and more pleased about her move to Mountain Meadows.  She felt more secure than when she lived alone because help was always available if a problem arose.  She enjoyed all the activities, including trips to town, birthday parties, and visiting entertainers.  She also enjoyed the company of other residents, making a number of new friends.

The staff at Mountain Meadows always treated Mother as if she were a welcome guest, not a burden. They were always pleasant and helpful and everyone seemed to enjoy working with the residents.

My wife and I were especially happy that Mother was living in a secure place that she enjoyed.  The staff took great pains to obtain and administer all medications, which can be a problem for some individuals.  A physician made regular house calls to see how the residents were doing.

We expect that once the word gets out, people will be lined up at the door to move into Mountain Meadows.  We only hope they will have room for us a few years down the road.
